My name is Mykhaylo Kovalenko. I am 63 years old and I am from Ukraine (Brody, Lviv region).
For several years now, I have been passionate about my hobby, namely making stained glass products using Tiffany technique (with copper tape). This craft came to me quite by accident through the Ukrainian technical magazine for children and youth ”Modelist-Constructor”, which I subscribed to for my daughter (she has demonstrated considerable technical abilities since childhood). Then I accumulated further knowledge about this craft through the Internet and books and gained practical skills at courses in Germany (Stuttgart) and Poland (Krakow). I took part in exhibitions of artisan craftsmen. I like to experiment with colors and shapes.
I personally do not have any art education. In 1982, I graduated from the Lviv Technical University (Ukraine, Lviv) with a degree in electrical engineering and worked in various technical positions for more than 40 years.
I really like the Tiffany technique when making paintings, window inserts, lamps, jewellery boxes, watches and small gifts (angels, hearts, snowflakes). I use my own design and projects. In addition to glass, I like to work with metal (brass, copper, steel) and make bases for lamps. First, I make a graphic drawing, from which a digital drawing is then made, and then the necessary elements for metal bases are cut out on a laser machine.
I have a small workshop at home in Ukraine. At the end of March 2022, I was forced to leave my home due to the full scale invastion by Russia of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
